Alta Sue Parrish
January 17, 1945 — May 11, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alta Sue Parrish, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Sue departed this world peacefully in the early morning hours of May 11, 2026, at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center, after valiantly facing a prolonged illness. She was 81 years old. Born on January 17, 1945, in the quaint town of Dublin, Virginia, Sue was a beacon of love and strength. She was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Marie Tickle and sister to the late Betty Lou Vance. Her journey through life was marked by a dedication to family, community, and an indomitable spirit that touched everyone she met. Sue's life was a testament to love and commitment, having shared 56 beautiful years with her devoted husband, Murrell L. Parrish, Sr. Together, they built a family that was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her loving children, Tammy M. Wonder, Murrell L. Parrish, Jr., and Charles F. Parrish. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Parrish, Brittany Carter (Kevin), Kristen Parrish, Trey Parrish and his wife Nicole, Amanda Funk (Garrett), Samantha Stack (Nate), and C.J. Parrish, along with her adoring great-grandchildren, Brantley Funk, Wynter Penny, Ryder Parrish Palmer Stack, Gemma Hall, JJ and Annie. Sue is also survived by her sister, Joann Vance, who shared in the many joys and memories of their lives together.
Sue's professional journey was as vibrant as her personality. She served diligently at the Mid Atlantic Toyota Parts Division, and as an Activity Director at Treasure Beach Campground. Later, she found her calling as the Center Director for Open Door before and after school care, where she influenced countless young lives with her kindness and dedication. Her community was her extended family. Sue was deeply involved as the Events Director and Kitchen Manager for the VFW 2462, where her leadership shone brightly. She was also the esteemed President of the Poplar Ridge Senior Club, a role she embraced with enthusiasm and grace. Sue poured her heart into these organizations, always eager to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Outside of her professional and community commitments, Sue found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for gardening, transforming her yard into a vibrant tapestry of colors and life. She loved attending and volunteering at post bull roasts and crab feasts, where her quick wit and warm smile endeared her to all. Sue's strength and energy were matched only by her meticulous attention to detail, qualities that endeared her to everyone she met. Her family remembers her as a woman of remarkable character, whose quick wit could light up a room and whose warm smile could brighten the darkest day.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to VFW 2462, located at 1720 Bayside Beach Rd, Pasadena, MD 21122, in honor of Sue's lifelong commitment to service and community. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered prayers and support during this difficult time. As they navigate the days ahead, they find solace in the love and memories shared with Sue, who will forever remain in their hearts.
A celebration of Sue's life will be held in her honor, where friends and family will gather to remember a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved. Details will be shared with those whose lives she touched so profoundly. Sue Parrish, a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering love, will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May her spirit continue to inspire all who knew her.
