Andrew "Andy" Richard Gelfert

January 27, 1955 — February 23, 2024

Andrew Richard Gelfert was called home to be with our Lord in heaven on February 23, 2024. He was born January 27, 1955, in Washington, DC, to the late Gerhard Otto and Edith Ingeburg Gelfert. A graduate of Walter Johnson High School, class of 1973, Andy married Lesli “Cricket” Elizabeth Scott in 1980, and together, reared their family in Pasadena, Maryland. Last year, they celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary, and they often enjoyed participating in living history events with their many friends and family. A graduate of the University of Maryland University College, class of 2006, Andy thrived in his computer career, focusing on information technology- and he devoted over 25 years of loyal service working at the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission. He was very skilled in woodworking and mechanical repairs. While his love of music and instruments led him to become an expert in historical accordion restoration, his love of God led him to a life of ministry as an ordained chaplain. He was actively involved in music ministry in several local churches and the Seven Mile Walk with Jesus (formerly known as Maryland Emmaus). He enjoyed volunteering at Grace and Hope Mission in Baltimore with his loving wife. He was actively involved in the lives and interests of his children (Anastasia Elizabeth Freeman, Emily Kathleen Seals, Katie Beth Gelfert, and Julie Alexandra Good) and grandchildren (Nathan Alexander Freeman, Grace Elizabeth Freeman, and Cara Isabel Seals), and he dearly loved his new great-granddaughter (Kadan Anne Freeman). Andy is preceded in death by his parents and brother (Gerhard Michael Gelfert). He is survived by his loving wife, Lesli, his four daughters, three grandchildren, and great-granddaughter, and his two nieces (Nicole Jennifer Gelfert and Michelle Ann Gelfert).
