Catherine Ann (née Mason) Manner

October 10, 1951 – July 8, 2025

Catherine (“Cathy”) Ann Manner, age 73, of Pasadena, Maryland, passed away at home on July 8, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, after facing ALS for 13 years with extraordinary courage and determination. Known for her fierce love of family, loyal friendship, deep compassion, and healing touch, Cathy will be remembered as a woman who lived with grace, strength, and humor.

Born on October 10, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, Cathy was the beloved daughter of John and Catherine (née Schmidt) Mason. She grew up in Arbutus, graduated from Lansdowne High School, and went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Agnes School of Nursing.

On June 10, 1972, Cathy married the love of her life, Charles (“Chuck”) Manner. Their 53-year marriage was a testament to devotion and partnership. Together, they raised four children: Bryan, Michelle, Kevin, and Jonathan, building a family rooted in love and laughter.

Cathy served as a registered nurse at St. Agnes Hospital and at Howard County General Hospital for over 40 years, where she was known for her sharp clinical skills, particularly her IV care, her humor, and her heartfelt care of infants and children. She extended her healing hands beyond the hospital walls through mission trips to Ecuador with the Ecuadent Foundation, where she provided care to children in need. She continued to work as a nurse until her ALS diagnosis in 2012.

Outside of her career, Cathy found joy in cooking, traveling, birdwatching, and spending time with friends, especially during lively potlucks with her cherished “Peeps.” She had a gift for bringing people together, and for lovingly telling Chuck what to do. Cathy opened her home to everyone. The more that gathered, the happier she was.

Though small in stature, she was mighty in spirit. She faced her illness with unwavering tenacity and inspired all who knew her with her courage, wit, and unshakeable love for her family and friends.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Manner; her children Bryan (Kelli) Manner, Michelle (Bryan) Offutt, Kevin (Amy) Manner, and Jonathan Manner; her 11 grandchildren—Brianna, Thomas, and Allie Manner; Wyatt, Hailey, Kolton, and Charley Offutt; Zinnia, Elliot, and Marigold Manner; and Jonah Manner; and her great-granddaughter, Isla Manner. She is also survived by her siblings, John Mason, Keith Mason, and Debbie Hogarty. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine Mason.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit McCully Polyniak & Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Eddie McGowan Foundation (https://www.eddiemcgowanfoundation.org/), in honor of Cathy’s life and legacy.
