Daniel Ellis Jones Sr., of Pasadena Maryland, passed away on June 22, 2025. He was born in Baltimore Maryland on May 26, 1954, and spent his childhood in Brooklyn Park, Maryland. Dan leaves on earth the love of his life, Donna McCumbie Jones, to whom he was married for 49 years. He was a deeply loving father to his children Tabitha Jones-Wohleber (Tim), Jessica Bustamente (Jason), Daniel Jones II (Marilyn), and Seth Jones(Chelsea), as well as his 10 grandchildren Noah, Dakota, Ellie, Elan, Liam, Cyrus, Delilah, Olin, Jaxson, and Atticus. His role as “dad” extended to include Michael Tolley as one of his own. Dan had an enduringly close relationship with his brother, Linwood Jones, and sister, Sylvia Fox. He is also survived by his sister Madelaina Harwood. He is preceded in death by his parents Allison and Frances Jones, and his brother Allison Jones.
Dan graduated from Brooklyn Park High School in 1972 and remained an active member of the reunion planning committee, getting great enjoyment from staying connected with others from every era of his life.
He joined the Navy in 1979 and continued to serve in the Navy Reserves through 1987.
For five years he worked as a helper at Maryland dry dock. Following that he was a marine pipefitter for Bethlehem Steel, where he worked for about 10 years. Between these jobs he also spent time perfecting his chicken carving skills at Anne Arundel Poultry Company. After 30 years he retired from the shipyard at the Curtis Bay Coast Guard base.
Dan was an avid hunter and sportsman, and he indulged every opportunity to share the sport with those he knew and loved, and some he got to know through those experiences. Blackwater Refuge was his favorite hunting locale. He was an active member of Elks Lodge #2482, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Dan loved crabs, good food, hunting, and time with family and friends. He never ran out of hunting stories, and made friends everywhere he went. We are grateful he is no longer experiencing pain and discomfort, but his unexpected parting leaves us wanting to say “I love you” once more.
