Daniel O’Brien passed away July 2, 2021 after a brief illness, his passing was sudden.
Daniel was born on December 25, 1955 in Baltimore to the late Paul and Ruth (nee Sappington) O’Brien. He grew up in Arnold, graduated from Severna Park High School in 1973. Daniel joined the Coast Guard in 1975 and served until 1985. Daniel’s 4 siblings, Cindy Johnson (Roger), the late Sheila Parker, Richard O’Brien and Patrick O’Brien.
Daniel was a loving husband to Debra (nee Matthews, Miracle) his wife of 23 years, they were together for nearly 35 years. He had 5 children: Daniel Paul O’Brien (Nancy), Patrick O’Brien (Ashley), James O’Brien (Christa), Amy O’Brien and Donna Miracle (by marriage).
Daniel was a loving Poppop to his seven grandchildren, Madison Watson, Lillianne Canuel, Caitlyn O’Brien, Sean O’Brien, Carley O’Brien, Liam O’Brien and Lauren O’Brien. He was an avid fan of any sports his grandchildren played and was ready to attend any performance they were in. His love for his grandchildren was obvious to all.
After honorably serving in the Coast Guard, Daniel was a Federal Government employee for 32 years, he retired in 2017. He was passionate about service to the nation and honoring the military, two of his sons went on to serve, Daniel Paul (Navy, Active), Patrick (Marines, Honorably Discharged).
Daniel was a fan of all sports, he always had some sort of sport on TV, unless the grandkids wanted to watch something else. Daniel played basketball and softball well into his early adult life. He was an avid football fan, especially the Ravens.
Daniel loved the beach, though the true Irish in him kept him under an umbrella to avoid a burn. He spent some of his last days enjoying the waves crashing and the sea breeze in his face with his loving wife, Debra.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Daniel’s name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org).
