Donald R Richardson, Sr

April 2, 1934 — April 20, 2025

With profound sadness in our hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Richardson Sr. on Easter Sunday, April 20th, 2025. Surrounded by loved ones and prayers, he rejoined his wife, Mary Sue Richardson, who preceded him in death, and leaves behind a large, loving family.

He is survived by his brother, Norman Richardson (and wife, Betty), as well as his four children and their spouses: Don Richardson Jr. (and Alla Bronzova), Laura Duckett (and Bob Duckett), Caroline Richardson Gore (and Ira Gore), and Elizabeth Richardson-Lomash (and Lulu Sparks). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and their spouses, along with eight great-grandchildren—including a baby girl on the way.

At 91 years old, he lived a long and fulfilling life. Born on April 2nd, 1934, he was known to us all as a gentle soul who taught the strength found in tenderness and patience—qualities that no doubt made him an excellent farmer, fisherman, and hunter, as well as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a hard worker with a creative and playful side, and a man of deep faith and kindness.

He enjoyed Bluegrass music and woodworking, fishing and shooting groundhogs, but most of all, spending time with his family and church community. He literally kept the lights on during his years as a lineman and draftsman for BGE and brought fresh food and beauty into our lives through the plants he grew, even opening Richardson Nursery in 1960. He loved camping and travel, often driving across the country in an RV. Like migrating birds, he and his late wife would travel south for the winters. He especially cherished what we lovingly call “Grandkid Trips” which were cross-country travels with each of his grandchildren.

Donald was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Glen Burnie, MD, where he enjoyed attending three Bible studies and volunteered with the Hands and Feet for JESUS Food Ministry.

We invite you to join us for a celebration of Donald’s life at Faith of Glen Burnie (7378 E. Furnace Branch Road, Glen Burnie, MD) on Saturday, April 26th, at 11 a.m., followed by a gathering at his home.
