Dorothy Ann Moran beloved wife of the late Norbert James Moran, devoted Mother of Patricia Ann Moran, Paul Andrew Moran and his Wife Nancy, James Moran and Jozee Buccio, loving Grandmother of Anastasia Ferko, Mackenzie Ferko, Carley Moran and Emmie Moran passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at the age of 96.
Dorothy was born on November 4, 1929, in the Corrigan Maternity Hospital in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in Death by her Parents, George and Mary Hanis and Brother George Hanis. She is survived by her sister, Marie Odorizzi, Nieces Mary Ann Young and Kathy Jones and Nephews Mark Odorizzi and Father Thomas Odorizzi.
Dorothy graduated from Mercy Hospital in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse and dedicated her life to Nursing where her kindness, patience and unwavering commitment touched countless lives and she was loved by all. Dorothy worked at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Hazleton, PA where she met her Husband Norbert when she was his Nurse when he was a patient having his tonsils taken out. Little did she know when she started taking care of him it would then be for the rest of their lives! She then worked at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. After getting married to Norbert and moving to Cherry Hill, New Jersey where she lived for over 60n years, her nursing career took her to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, New Jersey as a Nurse in the Maternity Ward where she took care of “her Babies” as she always said, and where she delivered her 3 children. She took time to raise us and when we were teenagers, she returned back to work at West Jersey Health System as a Nurse in the Med/Surg unit. Her co-workers used to say Dorothy could run circles around us Nurses!
To the world, our Mom was an extraordinary Nurse - to us she was an amazing, loving, kind and generous Mom and Grandmother. She was known for her warm smile, big heart and the way she made everyone feel welcomed in her home. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter and open doors, just like her heart. She loved going to the football and baseball games her sons played in and watching hockey and football on TV where she knew the names of all the players. Go Eagles and Flyers! She fed the birds peanuts every morning, did wash on Mondays and was a great cook. She loved to paint and painted everything in the house when she wanted to decorate. Dorothy sang in the Choir at Church and volunteered as Homeroom Mother at all our school activities. She and our Father loved to take car rides on Sundays and spent many vacations driving to Canada with a full car. Wherever we were - they were too.
Dorothy loved her Grandchildren and they love her. She truly lived to spend time with them and be a part of their lives. Whether with them in New Jersey or Maryland it was her joy to attend all the activities she could. Just say Dorothy let’s go and she was there! Her family was always the center of her beautiful heart.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on January 10, 2026, at 10am at Good Shepherd Church, 87 South Hunter Highway, Drums, PA 18222 and burial immediately following. All attending are invited to join us for Lunch immediately after at Top of the 80’s Restaurant, 3 Top of the 80’s Road, Hazleton, PA 18202.
