Butch was born in Baltimore (Pigtown) on November 28, 1941 to his late James and Henrietta Linton. He served in the United States Air Force in his early adulthood, after which he joined the Baltimore City Fire Department E27/T26. He retired in 2003 after serving 381/2 years. He also worked at Lowe's in Glen Burnie before they opened until retiring in 2018 after 19 years of service.

Family was most important to Butch. He loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. Butch also loved trains. He had an extensive train garden in his basement which he loved showing to his grandchildren. He also spent many hours at the railroad tracks watching trains and counting how many cars were behind the engine. He also had a great love for the Bay. He loved crabbing and fishing. He and Nancy enjoyed dining out and going to the casino. Butch was also an avid TVaholic. His favorite shows were Gunsmoke, Mash, Pawn Stars, Pickers, Deadliest Catch, the old game and judge shows.  He loved his food as well. He cooked a lot for the guys in the Fire Department. In his hay day he could put away some food. His favorites were fried chicken, cheesesteak subs, pizza, scallops, crabs, crab legs, oysters clams and shrimp. Butch will be dearly missed by all.
