James Edward Horst, a cherished soul, left us on July 16, 2026. He was the devoted husband of the late Mary Lee Horst and a loving father to David J. Horst, Sr. (Cheryl) and the late Scott E. Horst. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, David J. Horst, Jr. (Jodi), Heather A. Horst (Mark), and Sarah E. Horst, and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte R. Horst, James Horst, and Eli Horst.
James was a dedicated resident of Brooklyn Park, where he enriched the lives of many. A proud veteran, he served his nation honorably in the United States Army before dedicating many years to his work as a Marine Mechanic. His passion for sharing knowledge led him to teach small engine repair in Anne Arundel County’s Vo-Tech school.
A man of faith, James was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park, where he sang joyfully in both the choir and the Arundel Singers. His voice and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are warmly invited to honor James at the family owned and operated McCully Polyniak & Collins Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena, Maryland 21122, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM. A celebration of his life will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 226 Washburn Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21225, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 10 AM, followed by interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
