In Loving Memory of Jerry Allen Dunn 

Jerry Allen Dunn passed away on August 26, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and countless memories that will continue to bring smiles, laughter, and comfort for years to come.

Born in Welch, West Virginia, Jerry was the son of Beulah Shrewsbury and Herman Dunn. He was preceded in death by three of his brothers and is survived by his brother, Donald Dunn, and sister, Pam Grindall. 

Jerry began working as an arborist at just 18 years old, beginning a lifelong career that reflected so much of who he was—hardworking, dependable, knowledgeable, and never afraid of a challenge. Throughout his life, many people depended on Jerry, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed him. 

Together with Glennis Dunn, Jerry was blessed with six beautiful children: Smith Franklin Buchanan (Mable Buchanan), Debbie Dunn-Buchanan, Tammy Dunn-Holmes, Tina Dunn, Tracy Dunn-Welsh (Rich Welsh), and his youngest, Michael Dunn (Cara Dunn). 

Jerry’s family continued to grow to include 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, all of whom brought tremendous pride and joy to his life.

Jerry loved all of his children dearly. He shared a special bond with his daughters and was, without question, a true “girl dad.” His children and the families they created were among his greatest accomplishments. Nothing made him happier than having his family together, and he was incredibly proud of each of them. 

Some of the best memories of Jerry are found in the simple things he enjoyed most—family cookouts, a good game of horseshoes or cornhole, watching NASCAR, listening to bluegrass music, doing crossword puzzles, watching movies, and settling in for his favorite game shows. The Price Is Right was always a favorite.

He also loved fishing, and in true Jerry fashion, he didn’t necessarily need a car to get there. He could hop on his electric trike with his fishing pole and head off to enjoy the day.

And then there was Jerry’s seemingly endless supply of what the family lovingly called “useless knowledge.” Somehow, he always knew some random fact that no one expected him to know. Whether it came from years of experience, crossword puzzles, game shows, or simply paying attention to the world around him, Jerry had a way of surprising everyone with just how much he knew. 

Jerry will be remembered as a hardworking man, a helper, a provider, and, above all, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was someone people could depend on. He loved his family fiercely, enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, and took great pride in the family he helped create. 

His absence will be deeply felt at every cookout, every family gathering, every game of horseshoes and cornhole, and in all the ordinary moments that were made better simply because he was there. 

Jerry leaves behind a beautiful legacy—not only in the trees he cared for during a lifetime of work, but in the family, he loved, supported, and was so incredibly proud to call his own. 

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
