June Watts

June 22, 1938 — February 21, 2026

Baltimore

Mary “June” Watts, age 87 passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the University of Maryland Hospital after a brief illness. Born in South Baltimore in 1938, she was the daughter of Frederick and Margaret Koch (Wengert). June was the eldest sibling to Linda Muir (Chick) and Frederick Koch, Jr. (Amelia). She was married to the love of her life Gary Watts, Sr. for over fifty years before his passing in 2024. She is survived by her daughter Karen M. Anthony (Walter) and son Gary Watts, Jr. (Jeanne) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

June graduated from Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic School at age 16 and immediately went to work as a telephone operator at the Marvalite Paint Company. From there she worked for Tumbler Furniture Polish, and Fox Chevrolet before taking time off to raise her new baby. She returned to work at Southway Auto Supply for 18 years as their bookkeeper. After a several year break, she spent five years with Watts Window Cleaning (no relation) before retiring at age 61.

As a young mother, June cherished summers spent making memories at the beaches of Wildwood, New Jersey and Ocean City, Maryland. She loved to travel and after retiring, set off across the country in a new conversion van, collecting stories and adventures along the way. She also enjoyed traveling with friends on a yearly trip to Mexico and later in life going on senior citizen bus trips. Her favorite destination was Lancaster, Pennsylvania - especially in the fall of the year when the leaves were turning.

June worked alongside her husband as a member of the Curtis Bay Athletic Club hosting weekly dinners and supporting countless events. Whether it was selling 50-50 chances, spinning the cake wheel or decorating the clubhouse, they contributed wholeheartedly for more than twenty years.

In her later years, she became a regular “Bingo Babe” playing bingo at least once a week at Bingo World and enjoyed it even more when they installed the slot machines. She carried her love for games into her home life as well, never missing an evening “playing along” with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

June had a gift for staying connected to those she loved by sending cards - sometimes more than one - for every important occasion in their lives. And if you received an envelope covered in stickers, you knew instantly it was from her.

She will be missed beyond measure.
