Lauretta Jane Carrick, 92, of Riviera Beach, MD, passed away on June 14, 2025. Born on February 20, 1933, in Baltimore, MD, she was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and John Crook, her brother, Charles Crook, and her first husband of 20 years, Robert (Bob) Smith.
Lauretta is survived by her husband of 45 years, Howard (Dick) Melvin Carrick, as well as stepchildren, cousins, and many other extended family members.
Lauretta graduated from Eastern High School and went on to work at both the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and McCormick, where she remained until her retirement. Lauretta especially cherished her time at McCormick, where she took great pleasure bringing people to visit the tea house and test kitchen.
June, or Retts as she was affectionately known, found joy in the simple pleasures of life. As the matriarch of her family, she was the heart and soul of countless gatherings, always bringing everyone together with warmth and love. She enjoyed listening to country music, square dancing, and spending time with friends and family over card games. Lauretta especially cherished family gatherings—always made sweeter with chocolate and a Manhattan in hand. Some of her favorite moments were spent on her patio enjoying steamed crabs, shopping, going out to lunch and relaxing trips to Rehoboth Beach. A devoted animal lover, she cared deeply for her many dogs. Lauretta also treasured the time she spent at her homes in Riviera Beach, MD and Lakeland, FL, where she created lasting memories with those she loved.
