Margaret E. Karnes

Margaret Elizabeth Karnes (nee Pulaski), 79, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at BWMC. Margaret had resided in Pasadena, Maryland, since 1967. Margaret was born on December 11, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland to Anna and Edward Hahn. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1963 and went to work for the National Security Agency until her retirement in 2000. She married Houston (Sonny) Karnes, Jr. in August 1965.

After retirement, she became a Master Gardener and volunteered at Historic Londontowne. She loved to host family and friends at her home on holidays and other special occasions. She was well known for her amazing crab soup. She and Sonny enjoyed taking picturesque motorcycle rides and vacationing throughout the United States. 

She is survived by her husband, and her daughter, Christine Steele, Christine’s husband, Graham Steele, and their two children, James and Eric. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia MacFarlane, Brenda Leonhardt, Brenda’s husband Walter, also by many nieces, their spouses, and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Harry Dungan, Jr.

Visitation will be held at the family owned and operated McCULLY POLYNIAK AND COLLINS FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road PASADENA on Sunday, July 13, 2025, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 308 Oak Manor Drive in Glen Burnie, on Monday, 14 July 2025. Viewing at the church is from 1030-1100 and the service will begin at 1100. Graveside service to follow the funeral service at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 7231 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie.
