Marie Laycock Jones

Marie L. Jones, 92, passed away on Thursday, 11 January 2024. She was born June 15, 1931 in Hamilton, Virginia to Carroll P. and Mary E. Laycock. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949. She lived in Glen Burnie, Maryland most of her life as a homemaker.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Julius A. Jones and six brothers William, Robert, John, Joseph, Raymond, and Curtis.  She is survived by her five children Mary C. Jones, Julie E. Weinknecht, Donald W. Jones, Linda J. Lang (husband Kenneth G. Lang Jr.) and Eileen F. Macedo. She is survived by her beloved four grandchildren Melissa Martin, Stephanie Marvel (husband Justin Marvel), Rebecca Higgins (husband David Higgins) and William Lang.  In addition, Marie was the proud great-grandmother of seven.

Marie was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  Over the years, she participated in many trips with her church friends always coming home to share her stories.  She was a master seamstress involved in various sewing projects at Faith Baptist Church.  Most recently, as a founding member of the Faith Baptist Quilters Group, one of her proudest accomplishments were the thousands of lap quilts they made and donated to local hospitals and nursing homes.  Marie was a long-time member of the Sun Valley community, where she developed life-long friends.  She dearly loved their monthly dinners or just sitting around the kitchen table sharing a cup of tea.

A private viewing for the immediate family was held on 15 January. A visitation will be held at Faith Baptist Church 7378 E. Furnace Branch Road Glen Burnie, Maryland 21060 on Friday January 26, 2024 at 10 AM where a Memorial Service will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
