Marion Leroy Groff known to his family as Leroy passed away on August 8, 2026. Marion was born and grew up in Wann, Oklahoma. As a youth he enjoyed basketball, reading and continuing his education. He served 2 years in the Army when he met his wife, Betty Hood. They married, moved to Kansas and raised 3 children. While there he continued to work and take college courses in computer programming. 

In 1966 they moved back to Maryland where eventually he went to work for the State of Maryland Comptroller's Office as a computer programmer specialist. Also, he worked part time for 20 years at Sears. He retired both jobs in 1994 to enjoy retirement. He loved the time he spent visiting his siblings. Their favorite past time was visiting different casinos. Marion also enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved and was very proud of his nieces and nephews as well as their children.

He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Donnie) Hodges, son Danny (Candi) Groff; grandchildren David Baker, Dustin Groff, Dylan Groff, Kristen Gibson, Michael Groff, Crystal Groff and 10 great grandchildren; brother Thomas Groff and sisters Mandy Blackurn and Peggy James.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents Marian and Andy Groff, his sister Patsy Groff, wife Betty Hood, son Derrick Alan Groff, 2 grandsons Matthew and Steven and one great grandson Sean.

He will be missed by family and his many friends. His sense of humor never diminished with age, it actually flourished. We will miss that, but he gave us plenty of laughs and great memories to remember him by.   

Family and friends are invited to visit the family owned and operated McCully Polyniak & Collins Funeral Home, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road Pasadena, Maryland 21122 on Friday August 14, 2026, from 11 AM until 1 PM. At that time, we will process to Meadowridge Memorial Park for a graveside service.
