Mary M Holland

June 24, 1945 — July 25, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Margaret Holland (Singer), a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and a cherished friend, who left us on July 25, 2023. Mary’s departure has left a void in our lives that will be difficult to fill. She was a remarkable Mom and Gigi who lived a wonderful life of selfless devotion to her family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Margaret Singer (Punko) and her brother Edwin Singer.

Mary was born in Baltimore, MD on June 24, 1945, was a proud alumna of Seton High School, Class of 1963, and married Carl G. “Dutch” Holland on November 25, 1967. The two celebrated 55 years of marriage last November. Her spirit of selflessness was evident through her career working in the medical field, starting as a “pinkie” at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore. She cared so much for all of the women and expectant Moms that came through the door of the medical practice at which she worked for over 25 years.

Mary will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is now walking with Jesus. Mary is survived by her son, Michael Holland, and his wife Christine Holland (Zook), her daughter Kimberly Smith and her husband David Smith, and her daughter Jennifer Briemann and her husband Rick Briemann. Mary was “Gigi” to seven loving grandchildren- Robert, Joseph, and Mitchell Holland, Christopher and Catherine Smith, and Abbey and Henry Briemann. She is survived by her sisters Catherine Brown and Anna Klein and brothers Robert Singer and Tom Singer.

Mary loved her weekly trips to the beauty salon, playing bingo, summer vacations with her family in Ocean City, Maryland, eating steamed crabs, playing the slots in Dover and Las Vegas, and anything that involved her grandchildren. Her family will work hard to recreate her famous Thanksgiving dressing and sour beef and dumplings, but they already know that this is an impossible feat.

Family and friends are invited to McCully Polyniak & Collins Funeral Home 3204 Mountain Road Pasadena, Maryland 21122.  on Friday, August 4, 2023, 6:00 to 9:00 pm A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Chesapeake Church on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11 am.
