Paul Francis Mullen, 90, of Belleville, NJ passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, of natural causes in Pasadena, MD with the assistance of Hospice of the Chesapeake.
Paul was born in Scranton, PA on July 31, 1932, to Leo A. and Mary Kiernan Mullen growing up alongside his beloved two brothers, Leo and Jimmy. Following in his brothers’ footsteps, he graduated from Villanova with a degree in Economics and went to work in the A&P grocery store family business where his father was the General Superintendent and brothers worked as well.
Paul later found his calling working alongside Fr. Norman O’Connor, past Executive Director of Straight and Narrow, Diocese of Paterson, Catholic Charities. He was the Business Manager and remained in their service for 25 years.
Paul was a genius with numbers and never far from his calculator. A political enthusiast, Paul followed politics passionately and was always up for a good debate. He also enjoyed playing bridge, trips to the casino, traveling, was an avid reader and rarely met a dessert he didn’t find delicious.
Paul cared about people. He enjoyed meeting new friends, paid attention to the small details and was incredibly thoughtful. If it was your birthday or a holiday, you could always count on a card in the mail from Paul with a scratch-off ticket.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Mary Margaret McGrath Mullen. He is survived by his daughter Jeanne and her husband Bobby Slaughter, grandchildren Shannon and Michael Slaughter, great-grandchildren, Laylee Hayes and Brayden Kuhl, nieces Eloise Mullen, Patty Coyne and Anne Polischuck, nephews Jimmy, Michael, Joseph and Leo Mullen and many great nieces, nephews and extended loving family and friends.
Paul will be remembered for his dry, witty sense of humor, incredible memory, loving spirit, and knack for storytelling.
A Funera Mass will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 10:30am at St. Bernadette Parish, 1035 Turner Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA.
