Phronnie Jones

May 17, 1943 — January 12, 2021

Phronnie Elizabeth Jones, of Elkridge, MD, born May 17,1943 to the late Maggie Lee and Elmer Burnett in Charlotte, NC. Phronnie was the first born of twelve.   She answered her call home to Glory on Tuesday January 12, 2021.  She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 45 years, Henry Albert Jones, her brother Arthur Burnett and Michael Burnett; Sisters, Deborah Burnett, Mary Jefferson, Carolyn McBride and Asalie Spencer.

Phronnie was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools and Graduated from Frederick Douglass High school.  She received teacher’s aide training and worked in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She taught for many years at Odenton Christian School.  She attended LPN training with PTC in Baltimore and attended Anne Arundel Community College.  Over the years she participated in a host of Biblical training programs either through her church, online and in person.  Since education was of vital importance to her, she took advantage of every opportunity to learn from the multiple Bible study programs and education enrichment programs through ABEKA/Pensacola Christian college, Chaplaincy training through Howard County General Hospital, Master Life training at St. John’s Baptist Church as well as a host of continuing Biblical education programs.

Phronnie was an active member of Granite Baptist Church for 37 years and loved participating in the choir and working with the Awana youth program.  She often expressed how blessed she was for the foundation of faith she received there.  Shortly after her husband passed, she sought to fellowship closer to home so that she could be more active in church ministry.  Around 2010 she joined St. John Baptist Church in Columbia where her membership remained until her passing.

She could not wait to get involved, joining two choirs, a senior group and the Master Life program. The discipleship program called Master Life became the focus of her ministries going forward.  She was so impacted by the in-depth exploration of the Bible and the internalization of the Biblical truths the program taught that when she graduated, she agreed to become a Master Life instructor.  Her love and devotion for this program empowered and emboldened her to take the Master Life message beyond the church.  She has been instrumental in facilitating this program in many ministries.  This laid the foundation for her ministry of edifying and equipping lay people and church leaders for the task of not only evangelism but also staff discipleship.

An outgrowth of her love for family friends and fellowship led her to start a chapter of the Red Hat Society in 2008.  She named her Chapter P.H.R.E.E for Praise, Honor and Rejoice at Every Event!  PHREE became her motto and creed for everything going forward.

When ready to formalize her ministry, she named it PHREE Outreach Ministries Inc. with the Key verse:  John 8:36

If the SON therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

This ministry opened the doors for collaboration with 17 churches.  The most recent being:  Pool of Bethesda with Pastor George Gonga and Cornerstone Christian Community Church with Rev. Maxwell Ware and Sister Peggie.

Under the tutelage of Rev. Robert Lindsay Sr. of Rock Hill SC, Phronnie grew in her desire for ministry and the desire to do more for God.  She wanted to be a servant leader who enabled others to do the same.  In March of 2014, Phronnie was Ordained by Rev. Robert Lindsay along with a coalition of four other churches certifying her to expand her ministry to couples counseling and equipping servant leaders.

Reverend Phronnie, never tired of serving and helping others and continued her efforts in the Howard Co. General Hospital’s Chaplaincy training program earning her credentials under Chaplain Jack who encouraged her to seek certification with the “Journey to Better Health- a collaboration with the Ho. Co. Health Improvement Assoc., The Ho. Co Dept. of Aging and Independence along with the coalition of Geriatric Services (COGS).  Seeing the need to serve her patients beyond discharge she joined the Community Companion Services.

It was obvious to anyone who met her how much Rev. Phronnie love the Lord and her family.  She loves to have fellowships and Bible Studies. She had come to embrace Zoom technology to remain connected with her family and counseling her clients.

Rev. Phronnie was drawn to a life of faith early yet couldn’t “see” God’s plan.  She spent years searching for a church that embodied the truths of the Bible.  Once she came to a saving knowledge of Christ and found a church home she never looked back.  She studied every resource she could find to get closer to God and be equipped to serve!

All of the faith and knowledge she gleaned, she lovingly poured into her children and grandchildren.  This was not exclusive to her own as she was lovingly called mom by too many to name!  Rev. Phronnie was always intentional and clear in expressing her love and appreciation for everyone.  Many have heard her say “Give me my flowers while I’m living”.

She made sure to do this for others.  She left nothing unsaid.  We know that we were loved!!

We made sure she knew we love her too.  She especially loves her special “dates” with Jeremy.

He would leave gifts and flowers at her door and then call and ask if she had checked her porch.  She gushed about her treats from “my graaaandsooon”.

In her final days she repeatedly said “I am just so happy!!  I have lived to see my children grown, with families of their own and living for the Lord!  God has blessed me so much!  Just look at the life I’ve had and look at my grand babies all grown up getting married, planning for the future and making good lives for themselves, and I got to see it!  Ain’t God good!!

She leaves to mourn her loving memory, her sister Peggie Burnett-Queen (William), Brothers Willie Burnett (Jean), Johnny Jones "Jr.", Elmer Burnett and Malik Burnett (Marlisha), four daughters, Tavesia Austin (Vernon), Wanda Jones, Novetta Collison, and Katharin Jones (Jerry) three stepsons, Ricky, David and Thomas Jones, step-daughter Toney Jackson, thirteen grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also, listed in her notes as “like sisters” Daisy, Deloris, Mildred Marner,  Audie Goddard, Shari Pedde, “like daughters” Alice Lewis, Kathy McCully, Myrdice, Sarah, Paule Esther, Helen.
