Raymond J. Dettrey

January 21, 1944 — January 31, 2024

Raymond J. Dettrey (80) of Pasadena Maryland, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife Carol by his side on January 31, 2024. Ray was home on Hospice following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's and Kidney Disease.

Born in Ashland PA, Ray was the son of the late Harold (Ducky) and Martha (Pulaski) Dettrey.

A graduate of Mt. Carmel Catholic High School class of 1961, Ray then entered the United States Air Force and served his country faithfully for 5 years. Following his military service, he returned to Mt. Carmel and worked in a factory for over a year. Ray then relocated to Maryland where he obtained a job at NSA and was employed for the rest of his working years. He retired in 1999 after 35 years of service.

Ray was an active member of St. Jane Frances de Chantel Church as an usher, volunteered for several years at St. Jane Frances School, and was even honored with being named Volunteer of the Year.

Ray loved sports and was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan, but he genuinely enjoyed watching his four grandkids follow in his athletic footsteps in their many sports. For several years he was a softball coach and spent many fall and summer seasons umpiring softball and refereeing soccer.

Family was the central part of Ray’s life. He was the most devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather any family could ever want. His entire life revolved around making his family happy.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol (Tracey), and his two daughters: Tracy Howard (Bill), and Rae Ann Cinquanto (Christopher). In addition, Ray is survived by his four grandchildren: Tyler DeBoy, Nick Cinquanto, Christina Cinquanto, and Meghan Howard. Eleanor O’Hearn (Francis) is his only surviving sibling. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen Tracey and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ray was preceded in death by his brother Francis Dettrey and his sister Constance Barr.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the family owned and operated MCCULLY POLYNIAK & COLLINS FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road PASADENA on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Jane Frances Church 8499 Virginia Avenue PASADENA on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 10 am. Interment Crownsville Veteran Cemetery.
