Richard Patrick Boehning
August 24, 1943 – January 13, 2024
Richard Patrick Boehning, beloved husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather, passed away on January 13, 2024, at the age of 80, after a long illness. He was a warm, kind, welcoming and generous man with a hearty laugh, knack for storytelling and great sense of humor (clearly passed on from his Irish roots). He touched the lives of those of us who were lucky enough to know him for a lifetime, and people who met him only once.
Born in New York City to Mary Agnus (Ward) and Charles Boehning, Richard was the grandson of Irish and German immigrants. As the son of two hard-working parents who didn’t have the opportunity to finish high school, Richard believed strongly in the importance of education. He received his BBA from Iona College and MBA from Pace University, and encouraged all young people in his life to attain the highest levels of education they could.
Drafted into the Army in 1965, Richard joyfully signed up for Officer Training School once he realized how much better the food was in the Officer’s dining hall. One of his proudest moments was, after being commissioned an officer, to be able to take his mom and Dad to the Officers Club at West Point for lunch. Richard retired as senior vice president of Insurance Services Office, Inc. after 20 years in the insurance industry and a long and successful career in educational publishing, serving as vice president in the Consumer Products Division of The Walt Disney Company and President of Pathescope Productions.
Richard is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carolyn E. Boehning, and children Haley Boehning, Martin (Lynn) Ticar, Scott Ticar (Rory Gagan), and grandson Evan Ticar. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to a charity that reflects the relationship you had with Richard, or what you know to be meaningful to him.
