Robert "Butchie" T Fortman, Sr.

Robert T. “Butchie” Fortman was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and proud great-grandfather whose warmth touched every life he encountered. Known for never meeting a stranger, Butchie carried a natural kindness and steady support that made people feel instantly welcomed and valued. His presence was a source of calm, humor, and unwavering positivity.

A hardworking veteran who served in the Navy in the 60’s, Butchie spent many years after as the owner of a gas station, where his dedication and generosity became well-known in the community. After retiring, he enjoyed the peaceful life of Bethany Beach, having also treasured the time he spent in Port Ritchie, Florida. No matter where he was, Butchie was happiest near the water—on a boat, at the beach, playing cards, or gathered around a table trading jokes, and stories with those he loved.

Family was his heart. Whether sharing laughter, offering advice, or simply being together, Butchie made every moment meaningful. For all who had the privilege of knowing him, his energy, kindness, and genuine spirit left an unforgettable mark. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
