Robert A. Hicks

August 5, 1940 — March 6, 2026

Robert Alan Hicks (85), beloved husband of the late Jo Ann Hicks, reunited with his wife and went home to the Lord on March 6, 2026, after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's. Known to many as Bob or Butch, he was most affectionately known as “Pop” to his closest loved ones.

Born on August 5, 1940, in Riviera Beach, Maryland, he grew up in the Pasadena/ Glen Burnie area. While attending Glen Burnie High School he met the love of his life, Jo Ann (Cashen) Hicks. The two were married on June 20, 1959, just ten days after Jo Ann’s high school graduation. Their love spanned 66 years until Jo Ann’s passing in September 2025. In the months following her absence, not a day went by that Robert didn’t ask about the well-being of his wife.

For most of his career, Robert worked as a Contracting Officer for the National Security Agency (NSA), serving the United States Government with dedication. Earlier in life, he also served in the Air Force Reserves.

In his free time, Robert was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and often attended church on Saturday evenings so he wouldn’t miss Sunday football. He also enjoyed home remodeling, woodworking, particularly engraving shotgun stocks and eggshells with a dental drill—an intricate craft that reflected both his patience and skill. Despite the battle with his memory, his sense of humor always remained intact. Making his family laugh was always what he referred to as “Pop’s job”.

Robert is survived by his two daughters, Mary Jo Robinson (husband Rick) and Kathy Kronstadt (husband Wayne); his grandson, Kristopher Jones (wife Leigh) and great-granddaughter Emeline; his granddaughter, Kristen Giles (husband Brian) and great- grandchildren Abigail and Tommy; and his granddaughter, Susan Willerson (husband Jason). Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Susie A (Hall) Hicks, his brother Joseph Hicks III and his sister Norma L (Hicks) Blauciak.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Robert’s life on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM at McCully Polyniak & Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue South, Millersville, MD 21108, followed by a reception at The Farmhouse Gambrills.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Robert’s memory to Hospice of the Chesapeake, whose compassionate care provided Robert with comfort and dignity in his final days.
