Rosemarie Ursula Bauman of Glen Burnie, MD, passed peacefully on December 21, 2025. She will be remembered for her passion and pride as an advanced practice registered nurse, her lifelong advocacy for those suffering from mental illness and addiction, and for her fierce dedication in the animal welfare community.
Rosemarie (Rose, for those that knew her well) is survived by her son Mark Bauman, his wife Monika, and her daughter Jamie Bauman, of Pasadena, MD. Rose was most proud of her 4 grandchildren – her ‘big boy’ - Brett Bauman (Puerto Rico), Jacob Bauman (Pasadena), Emma-Rose Bauman (New York) and Jack Laib (Pasadena). She is survived by two sisters, Ute Schlichter of Forst, Germany, and Monika Waas of Karlsruhe, Germany. She is proceeded in death by her husband Jack Bauman, her mother Rosa Kritzer Waas, her father Herbert Waas and two sisters, Jutta Waas and Baby Jutta Waas.
Rose was fiercely independent, proud of her personal accomplishments and tenacity while striving to assimilate and thrive in America after immigrating from Germany. When her husband Jack was deployed to Vietnam, Rose found herself with two young children, minimal command of the English language, and far from family in Germany.
After Jack’s return from Vietnam, the couple relocated to a variety of bases in the US and Germany with their family, eventually settling in Glen Burnie, MD in 1971. Pursuing a career of her own, Rose earned both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1982) and a Master of Science in Nursing (1988) from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. With a special aptitude and compassion for patients with psychiatric illness and emotional trauma, she worked for many years as a psychiatric nurse, as well an advocate for recovery programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon. Rose retired from nursing in 1995 and dedicated her later years to animal welfare, volunteering generous hours and championing the local trap/neuter/return programs in the Baltimore area.
Rose’s unrelenting work ethic, sense of autonomy, and unwavering belief in human dignity were values she imbued in her interactions with all. She leaves a legacy of intelligence, determination, and humanitarianism to her children and grandchildren, who feel greatly shaped by her.
Visitation and memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 24th from 3 pm to 4 pm at the McCully-Polyniak-Collins Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD. Family will receive visitors from 3 to 4 pm with a service to be held at 4 pm in remembrance of Rosemarie. Rose will be interred at the Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army in her memory.
The family wishes to thank the Annapolitan Assisted Living Facility and Hospice of the Chesapeake for their support and care during Rose’s last months.
