SAMUEL HENRY TURNER

On October 8, 2022, Sam Turner of Battle Creek, Michigan died unexpectedly following a cardiac event in Pasadena, MD while visiting his son’s family.  He was born in Battle Creek, MI to Clarence and Lucy Turner.  He attended Battle Creek Central, Southern Illinois University, and received his master’s degree in Occupational Education at Western Michigan University.  Sam enjoyed teaching at different schools before taking his talent to the business world.  After retirement he re-entered the education system at Calhoun Area Career Center.  Sam enjoyed coaching and watching his sons in the Battle Creek Ice Hockey Association.  He was a true outdoorsman, enjoying the family farm, hunting, fishing, boating, and lake life.  Sam was generous in sharing his time and talents, whether mechanical or woodworking, and was a master of all trades.  He was involved 35 years with the Skill USA National Organization.  Sam loved to share his knowledge with young adults pursuing technical careers, especially automotive and diesel technologies.  Sam loved his family.  His joy in life was spending time with his sons and grandchildren.  Sam is survived by his wife Marty of 51 years, his two sons Chris (Elizabeth) and Matt (Michelle), grandchildren Aurora, Emilie, Wyatt, and Everett who loved their “GRAMPS” beyond words, and his sister Joyce Labine.  He was predeceased by his parents and brother Vern Turner.  Sam was a giant of a man in stature, generosity, and had a great sense of humor which was enjoyed by all.
