Charles “Chuck” Harry Austin (80), a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel, passed away peacefully on October 18th 2020 at Anne Arundel Medical Center as a result of a short term illness. The son of the late Donald Austin Sr. and May Rines of Altoona, PA.. Born on April 4, 1940 in Altoona, PA., Chuck graduated from Glen Burnie High School. Devoting a lifetime to community service, Chuck volunteered at several Anne Arundel County Fire Departments, owner of C&L Limousine service and employed at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland.
Chuck has served the fire service for many years, starting with the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company in August of 1957, then to Marley Volunteer Fire Company in February of 1965, and then joining Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company (EHVFC) in 1971 where he was currently a life member. With a combine total of 63 years of dedicated service.
Chuck served in many positions with the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company to include, Lieutenant, Training Officer, Corresponding Secretary, and President. He chaired the Ways and Means committee and was very active with weekly bingos and the annual carnival.
Chuck represented EHVFC as a delegate to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association for many years. He also held the offices of Sergeant at Arms from 2006-2007, and Second Vice-President in 2008. Chuck was inducted into the AACVFA Hall of Fame in 2002.
Chuck also represented EHVFC as a delegate to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (MSFA) and was very active with the MSFA. He chaired the 17 State Circle Committee from 2003 to 2012, and was very active in getting donations to the annual golf tournament held each year at the convention and conference in Ocean City, MD. Chuck was inducted into the MSFA Hall of Fame in 2009.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Tracey Gearhart and her husband Stan of Glen Burnie, his son Shannon Michael Austin and his wife Katie of Glen Burnie and step-daughter Robin Lehman-Edelen and her husband James of Glen Burnie. He is also survived by adoring grandchildren Joshua Austin-Smith, Jacob Smith and Makenzie Austin. Chuck was a loving brother, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road Pasadena, Maryland 21122 on Monday October 26, 2020 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October 27, 2020 at 10 AM at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church . Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery.
