John Wheeler

John Michael Wheeler (73) of Pasadena, Maryland died on April 13, 2021. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

John was born in Baltimore in 1948. He graduated from Polytechnic Institute in 1966 and earned a degree at Baltimore Junior College while working as a police cadet. He joined the Baltimore City Police Department in 1968. Known to his partners as “Sarge” or “Wheels”, he worked within several specialized units in the police department including CID, Vice and Narcotics Divisions. He retired from the Police Department in 2002.

John, who was known to many as “Mike” “Dad” or “Pop” had a spirited and vivacious character. He was bold and irreverent, but compassionate and light hearted. He enjoyed being in the company of friends, and always made people laugh. He was drawn to the ocean and loved being on the water crabbing and fishing. He also spent a lot of time fixing his boat, the “USS Neversail”. Mostly he valued family and shared his sentiment for tradition with those he loved.

John is survived by his devoted wife Donna Wheeler of Pasadena and his daughters Tricia Cihlar (Nate) and Nicole Jump (Al) and MaryBeth Hall (Robbie). He is also survived by his grandchildren Krystina Wagstrom, Julianna Hall, Lainey Hall, Jayden Cihlar, Siena Cihlar, Dalton Hall, Gabriel Jump, Noah Jump and his great grandson Carson Wagstrom. He is survived by his brothers Daniel Wheeler and Patrick Wheeler (Robin) and sister Kathleen Wheeler in addition to many nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his son, Michael Wheeler and his parents, Jack Wheeler and Dorothy Wheeler (Neighoff).

John was hardworking man of true grit and strong character. He had a generous, kind heart. He loved many and was loved by many. He will be dearly missed.

Family and friends are invited to call at the family owned and operated McCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road on Thursday April 22, 2021 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. Where a funeral service will be held on Friday April 23, 2021 at 11 AM. Interment Meadowridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association www.bdsra.org in honor of his son, Michael.
