Loretta May Ochs Burns

November 29, 1942 – February 26, 2021

Loretta M. Ochs Burns, 78, passed peacefully at her home on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 10:54 p.m. with her family at her side.  She was born November 29, 1942 to the late Vernon A. Ochs Sr. and Ida Jean Johnson Ochs in Baltimore, Maryland.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Allen K. Burns; loving brother Barry L. Ochs; devoted children Dawn M. Blake-Singer, her husband Michael B. Singer; and Preston H. Blake Jr., his wife Deborah Costagliola. Her loving grandchildren; Michael C. Singer, Jessica D. Powell, her husband Andrew Powell, Preston H. Blake III, Christopher C. Blake, his wife Taylor L. Blake, Ashley N. Singer, and Amber M. Singer. Her dear great grandchildren; Karly R. Singer, Charlotte G. Singer, Benjamin M. Singer, Quinn N. Blake, Avery B. Powell, and Adelyn N. Powell. She leaves behind her husbands’ family as well as many nieces and nephews for who she has cared for throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her siblings Vernon A. Ochs Jr. and Linda L. Ochs Bougourd. She was the matriarch of her family and a woman of strong Christian faith. Her spirit will live on.

Loretta resided in the Lake Shore/Boulevard Park area of Pasadena, Maryland for the past 78 years. She made Pasadena her home spending much of her time around her family pool. She looked forward to family vacation to spend time at the beaches of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina visiting her brother. She also enjoyed traveling to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Deep Creek, Maryland, and bus trips with her Pasadena Senior Clubs. She often loved road trips to visit extended family and friends. Amongst her favorite trips were the proud moments visiting her grand-daughters at college in Newberry, South Carolina and Emmitsburg, Maryland.  She loved when all her family members shared their experiences, for Family was her Life!  If she was not spending time with them in person; she loved to FaceTime and follow their photos and stories on social media.  Loretta also enjoyed camping, crafting, painting, scrap booking, and sewing, reading and watching movies.  BINGO was one of her favorites too, for she enjoyed the time with her mother, sister, daughter, and niece, Stacie Clark. Loretta loved home cooked meals with her family but always had a passion for baking.  Her baked cakes, cookies, and pumpkin rolls were known as being the Best and will surely be missed by all.

Her early years she worked as a clerk in Anne Arundel County’s Judicial Dept. and then as a School Crossing Guard. She went on to perform administrative, clerical and accounting duties for her father’s family-owned business, Curtis Refuse Company. Her final position was with Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI).

Loretta enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader for her daughter and nieces’ troops. She also loved helping when needed with her sons Boy Scout and Indian Guide troops.  Throughout the years she volunteered her time at Bodkin Elementary School, Boulevard Improvement Association, Lake Shore Democratic Club, and her Senior Clubs.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass that will be celebrated in the Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church, 8325 Ventnor Road, Pasadena, Maryland on March 12, 2021 at 10:30 AM.
