Robert Bayne

September 23, 1931 — June 21, 2019

Robert William (Bob) Bayne, age 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, leader, friend and Veteran went home to be with the Lord Jesus at approximately 9:00 am on Friday, June 21st , 2019.

He was born in Baltimore on September 23, 1931 and graduated from Southern High School in 1950. He joined the United States Air Force and served for four years, including service in Korea, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He started  his career as a professional Firefighter for the City of Baltimore and he married Barbara Joan Howard on May 28, 1955. He continued with the Baltimore City Fire Department, eventually rising to the rank of Captain. Bob retired from full-time work in July 1989 after thirty-four years of faithful service. He continued working his part-time job with Delta Bingo until May of 2019, for a total of 60 years.

Bob was a tireless worker and devoted to his family. He was a dedicated Christian and along with his wife consistently demonstrated God’s love by opening his heart and his home to all and showed a true compassion, generosity and hospitality to those in need. He had a well-honed sense of humor, was an avid golfer, loved playing poker with friends and family, and enjoyed watching and listening to sports. Bob was a fantastic friend, a godly example and a source of wisdom to many. He will be sorely missed. He resided for many years in Millersville, Maryland and was one of the charter members of Lighthouse Church when it was planted in 2000.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years Barbara (Howard) Bayne and their two daughters, Toni Schiller (Jim) and Jeni Smart (Gordon). He is survived by 4 grandchildren Dominic Smart (Brittney) Scarlett Schiller, John Smart (Mary) and Cam Smart, and 3 great grandchildren Jack, Andrew and James. He is also survived by his sister Victoria Schmidt (Will).

Bob was the son of the late William Campbell Bayne and Mildred (Blackeby) Bayne and was one of four children. He was preceded in death by his sister Marlyn, his brother William.

The family will receive friends at family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road in Pasadena, Maryland on Thursday, June 27th from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A brief military service will be held at Crownsville Cemetery at 10:45 Friday June 28th, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Lighthouse Church at 6691 Baymeadow Drive, Glen Burnie Maryland on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Lighthouse Church.
